Sam Bell Ghost Bike Vigil

Vigil held: September 29th, 2022 - Milwaukee Ave at Huron

On September 8th, Sam Bell 44, was hit and killed while biking on the Milwaukee Ave bike lane. He was hit by a 77 year old left turning driver traveling in the opposite direction.

On September 29th, Sam's friends, family, and the Chicago biking community gathered at the crash site to install a ghost bike. A ghost bike is a memorial for people killed while biking. The process involves painting a bicycle white & placing it at the site of the crash. Ghost bikes are a way to honor lives lost and they're paired with a hope that a location will be constructed in a way that will be safe for all.
